Roppongi

So... last night/this morning was crazy. Yesterday we went to Yasukuni and Harajuku and then Brock decided he wanted to go to Roppongi to go clubbing. So we go out to dinner at a Chinese restaurant (go figure) and we are there for 3 hours because they took our drink order then didn't realize we wanted food as well so we had to track them down. And then it took another hour+ to actually get the food. Which was okay but overpriced (12 bucks for a tiny plate of stir-fried asparagus, broccoli and other veggies and another 5 for a glass of diet coke!?).

After dinner, since we missed the last train home, we went clubbing. I think we were intending to miss the train anyways, so that wasn't a big deal. So we went to a "De Links" club that had a very small playlist and mandatory drink law. It wasn't that bad, and my Kahlua was very good ^^, but Julie accidently stepped on my toe that I injured earlier this year and it hurt!!! Now it's back to being purple again =(

After that club, we went to Gas Panic club, which was crowded and in my opinion, horrible. It was like a mosh pit, only scarier. But everyone else was enjoying themselves to a certain degree, so I guarded the purses in the corner and did my best to avoid being crushed into the table. Which happened quite frequently. If anyone is interested in the more sordid details, ask later when I have more time (we're meeting for dinner at the train station at 5. I woke up at 3 and it is now 4:19 here.)

Then we hung out at McDonald's for a few minutes before walking from Roppongi to Shibuya (in heels!). When we got there, we went to another McDonald's for a few minutes (only place open 24/7 that has chairs!!) and then went to the station to wait for the first train at 5:15. Then got back to the room and crashed a little after 6.

あつい!

Well, I'm in Tokyo now. It's nice and all (gotta love that Tokyo night life), but it isn't quite as nice as Kyoto. And the weather here sucks. It is so hot and muggy one minute, cool and breezy the next, then its raining, then hot and sunny again. Grr..

Went to Akihabara last night and might go back tomorrow. Could not find the Ouran game anywhere =O, sorry Rejon. I will keep looking, tho. Went to Yasukuni War Shrine and Harajuku today. Got Johnny stuff ^_^v so that quest is officially complete. Now we're gonna go out for dinner and then head to Roppongi to go clubbing. Should be interesting.

Also, my camera decided to crap out on me. It has been eating batteries like crazy since I came to Japan, so I recharged the rechargeables before we left Kyoto and I also purchased some AAs from the local Lawson's in Seta. I put the rechargeables in the camera today, it turns on then off. Try a couple more times but the same thing happens. So I put the new batteries in and it happens yet again! Needless to say, it looks like I won't have any pictures of Tokyo. On the plus side, I can get some from the other students.

帰りたい

I`m actually upset at one of my roommates, for the first time in the duration of the trip, so I think that is a good indicator that I am ready to come home. I will definitely miss Japan, however.

Today was the last day of class. We held our mock summit and successfully managed to resolve all of our issues without blowing up the world (go us!). I was assigned China along with my roommates. We did fairly well, and although we came in second point-wise, we got the US and Japan to formally commit to the "One China Policy" and agree to politically/economically pressure Taiwan into reunifying. Woot!

Went out this evening for our farewell dinner. Yoshi hung out with the boys earlier today, and he had little presents for all of us girls (aww!). He got us little bear charms with our initials on them, which was impressive coz he had to know our names in order to get them.

Had two firsts today: eel and sake. Both were better than I expected, although the sake wasn`t exactly wonderful. Now I`m tired and want to sleep off a headache I`ve had all day, but a couple of girls are marathoning HanaDan in my room and won`t stop (despite me saying about two and a half hours ago that I am sleepy and that they can watch one more episode but then nighty-night).

We`ll be heading to Tokyo tomorrow morning. I`m looking forward to going to Akihabara and Harajuku. I think my professor wants to drag us all to Roppongi and then the fish market at 5am one night/morning. I have far too many souvenirs in my suitcase =/

おもしろい

Spent Sunday sightseeing in the rain. Besides getting soaked, my roommates and I were also kidnapped by this guy who paints crests on kimono. He took us to his workshop/home and showed us how he does it, all the awards he`s won, etc. Then he proceeded to show us a video of him on the local news about a month before. Apparently, he kidnaps foreigners all the time and does this. Go figure. But we figured we could take the guy, plus he introduced us to his 83-year-old mother, who is adorable!

On Monday, I finally got to see Fushimi Inari like I wanted to, yay! And then we went shopping in Kyoto (probably yesterday was our last day there). I bought some manga and a book based on a manga and pretty hair sticks for my yukata. Then we went to the fairwell dinner the university held for us (even though we`ll be here for a week still). It was a lot of fun. We taught the Japanese kids some lame/Southern things (y`all, fixin`) and they in turn taught us lame things (Chotto chotto). It was also another opportunity to see Yoshi, Aya, and Mai. Too bad Seiya wasn`t there =( And Aya gave all the girls the cutest change purses. I felt so special ^_^

ぎおん

Slept in today =) It was very nice sleeping past 7 am for once. Then I went to the ATM and headed to Kyoto. We stopped at a couple of random temples before heading to Ginkakuji. Afterwards we staked out Gion and spotted a couple of geisha. It was awesome! Around 6 PM, all the geisha start coming in their taxis and everyone just stands in the street with their cameras at the ready, so the all of the cars/bikes/taxis have to navigate the crowds. This one Japanese guy in a kimono came up to us and asked us what was going on. We were like, "Um... we're stalking geisha and maiko?" Good times.

ひめじ

Went to Himeji Castle today. It was gorgeous, but the stairs were all tiny and really, really steep. Plus the slippers they gave me to wear were too big, so I kept stepping out of them. I finally gave up and walked around an ancient samurai stronghold in my pink Funky Monkey socks. Yeah, I`m classy.

It seems a festival was going on in Himeji today as well. Not Tanabata, but it was still pretty neat. We even found a booth where a guy was selling Johnny posters. Because I got my roommates hooked on HYD (seriously hooked -- Julie keeps ranting about how she hates the cliffhangers and always wants to know what happens next), we all got some MatsuJun and Shun Oguri stuff. It was interesting trying to tell the guy which posters we wanted and he kept trying to get us to open these weird slips of paper that had numbers hidden on them. Apparently we kept losing. I think if you picked a certain number, you won the poster for free?

I also passed through Suma and Akashi on the way to Himeji. It was so poetic! Especially since it was rainy most of the day, so it was bleak out and there was fog everywhere. But it was still really neat looking out at the water and the rocks from the train window. Speaking of poetic, we got to attend a lecture on haiku yesterday. Both Professor Yi and I disagreed with what they guy had to say (he kept talking about Suzuki`s theory of cosmic unconscious as it applied to Basho`s haiku about the frog), but it was interesting nonetheless.

Now I`m bored. And sleepy. Night.

Pig and Whistle

Went out to an English pub with some students from Ryukoku tonight. Had a blast! I'm legal here in Japan, plus they don't card anyways, so I got a pina colada. I also teamed up with Shawn in foosball against Julie and this one Japanese guy who kept hitting on me and asking me if I had a boyfriend. We took names ^_~ I love Japan!
